This is the quartet version. A quintet version with Anthony Braxton as saxophonist number 5 was released on the Rova-Braxton LP and CD "The Aggregate," now long out-of-print.
The more frenetic pace (tempo) of this recording is simply a matter of the recording occurring after some years of performing the piece as a quartet live. So Rova has a better grip on how The Shopper is feeling as he races around grabbing mercy before the deadline.
